Mysterious lights over Houston December 2025

Reports of mysterious lights over Houston lit up social media around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 8, 2025. Drivers along I-10 West near Beltway 8 and Highway 6 reported seeing glowing orbs drifting across the sky.

Reddit user CountessDashh described a strange, shifting light behind what looked like a foggy veil:

“As I watched on I noticed the light getting larger then smaller but constantly behind a foggy veil. I was even questioning if I was seeing the moon peaking behind the clouds at one point. The closest thing I can compare it to would be seeing a headlight through fog. I realized something was off because I saw helicopters flying through the sky that weren’t hidden. Then I realized there isn’t an overcast tonight.

It was so uncanny because the light kept changing size then a smaller light appeared next to it but it was not engulfed in haze. The smaller light circled around the larger then disappeared a couple of times.

My husband and I continued to watch it drift in the sky towards the galleria. Idk what it could’ve been. I was so entranced that I didn’t pull out my damn phone and record!!! I’m a little creeped out but it was cool to witness. Just wanted to see if anyone else saw it. ”

Another Reddit user chimed in:

“I saw it in the parking lot of kirby ice house at 6pm. I got out and pointed it out to my girlfriend and then we continued. Also seemed like it was constantly obscured by light cloud cover.”

And it wasn’t just Houston looking up. Reports from Dallas surfaced around the same time.

So were aliens visiting Space City for an early holiday tour? One commenter jokingly suggested it was “just Mattress Mac going back to his home planet.”

The spectacle was, in fact, a SpaceX launch. Around the time of the Houston UAP buzz, a Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, sending 29 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit.

The launch marked the 32nd flight for this particular first-stage booster. This workhorse has previously supported missions including CRS-22, Crew-3, Turksat 5B, Crew-4, CRS-25, Eutelsat HOTBIRD 13G, SES O3B mPOWER-A, PSN SATRIA, Telkomsat Merah Putih 2, Galileo L13, Koreasat-6A, and 21 Starlink flights. After stage separation, the booster successfully landed on the Just Read the Instructions droneship in the Atlantic Ocean.

So while extraterrestrials weren’t hovering over Houston, a rocket certainly was—leaving Texans starstruck all the same.

The next night, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, hundreds of sightings of a bright fireball were reported. The bright, fast-moving object was seen around 6:45pm in Texas, Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Kansas.

The event recorded as 9570-2025 by the American Meteor Society (AMS) was classified as a fireball, which is a term for a very bright meteor.
