What was the UFO in the sky above Houston that caused a sonic boom?

We promise it was not from one of Locktopia’s game rooms, like Aurora or Gateway.

A meteor estimated to be about three feet in diameter and weighing roughly one ton streaked into Earth’s atmosphere at nearly 35,000 miles per hour on Saturday, March 21, 2026, generating a shockwave comparable to 26 tons of TNT.

The event triggered loud sonic booms that rattled homes, shook buildings, and sent vibrations across neighborhoods in west Houston.

Reports quickly spread from communities including Cypress, Katy, Cinco Ranch, Wharton, and northwest Houston suburbs, as well as Waller County.

According to NASA, the meteor first became visible over Stagecoach before traveling southeast at high speed and breaking apart west of the Cypress Station area. The agency said the object fragmented in the atmosphere, producing a pressure wave responsible for the booms heard across the region.

In Spring, resident Sherrie James told KHOU 11 that what appeared to be a meteorite crashed through her home, tearing through the roof and ceiling of an upstairs bedroom. She said the object then bounced off the floor, ricocheted back into the ceiling, and landed near a television.

James called the fire department, which initially considered whether the object could have fallen from an aircraft. Within minutes, however, crews informed her of reports that a meteor had broken apart over north Houston.

No injuries were reported. James noted that if anyone had been in the room at the time, the outcome could have been far more serious.
